Matthew Hammerschmidt
I'm a clinical supervisor and an outpatient counselor who primarily works with children and adolescents, supporting them as they navigate emotional, behavioral, and life challenges. I graduated from the University of Mary with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and continued my education by earning a Masters of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.
I believe in creating a safe, supportive environment where individuals feel heard, understood, and empowered to work through challenges at their own pace. I assist in working through concerns such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, and emotional dysregulation. My therapeutic approach primarily incorporates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), with a focus on helping individuals develop coping strategies, strengthen emotional regulation, and build problem-solving and decision-making skills. In addition to traditional therapeutic approaches, I incorporate expressive and experiential therapies, including sand tray therapy, expressive art therapy, and play therapy, to help individuals explore their emotions, build confidence, and develop skills in ways that feel meaningful and engaging to them.
